Our planning is flexible, which allows for exciting and unexpected things to unfold! Children arrive and practice self registration using their name cards. When everyone has arrived we have a short, formal registration, giving children the opportunity to get used to answering to their name in Welsh. We use this time to practice our counting and days of the week, and to discuss the weather. Over time, the children learn the Welsh names for numbers, colours and the weather. New topics are discussed.
The next part of the session is free play, giving children the opportunity to choose what or with whom to play. Whether it be planned activities, with adults providing guidance, or child-led, with support given to extend individual play, we try to build on and respond to the children’s own interests. We find this provides the best motivation for learning.
Focused activities are planned for the seven areas of learning, which enables staff to observe and assess the children’s progress.
We tidy up together and have a story whilst the staff set up the tables for snack time. 'Book of the Week' is very popular and leads to lots of activities that cut across the whole curriculum. Factual books are also used at this time and we use the iPad to research something that may have come up during the morning.
Time to go outside! The rest of the morning is spent in the great outdoors, enjoying the beach, woods, muddy kitchen, allotment, the moat and tennis courts, to name but a few places. Maths, literature, physical and creative activities are carried out in the outdoor environment. Some mornings we pack a rucksack and go out for the whole session. We have wonderful adventures!
Shortly after we return the parents/carers arrive and the morning children leave. Children who stay for the full day have lunch together and this proves to be a lovely social time for everyone; the amount of language used is equally amazing and funny!

We are able to apply for a grant, which entitles five free sessions via The Vale of Glamorgan Education Authority from the term after your child's third birthday. From September 2018 fees are £13.50 per session, £27 for a full day. If you feel this is the nursery for your child, you're very welcome to come and visit. Please telephone first just in case we're at the beach!
